Summer Greens, Starting a Plein Air with
Jerry Weiss’s video is a one hour demonstration on beginning a summer plein air landscape painting. Working in oils, Weiss explains the process of composing, drawing and blocking in large masses. The painting starts with a linear notation of the major shapes, and proceeds with an energetic, abstracted conception of lights and darks. Through proper observation of these shapes, an image of recognizable depth and color unfolds. The result is an entertaining master class on the art of plein air painting, by an artist who’s been teaching the subject for over twenty-five years.
